It is with great sadness that we advise you of the passing of one the PCD Support’s biggest allies, Sylvie Prouse, who passed away peacefully on 21st January 2025 after a long battle with cancer.
Sylvie, who was diagnosed with PCD when she was an adult, was a member of our committee for over 20 years. She undertook numerous roles including secretary, adult representative, manning our telephone line (the days before the internet) and was always keen to help at any event that we organised or attended. She was very keen to spread awareness of PCD and would always have a leaflet in her bag to hand out to people.
She was a kind and generous friend to her fellow committee members and will be remembered with fondness and love.
Carol Polak (Founder of PCD Support) said ‘I remember in the early days of PCD Support when she was the rare phenomenon of being an adult with PCD (along with Terri) who seemed to be managing well despite very late diagnosis. It gave us a positive image and something for our patients to aspire too. She was so supportive to be on the committee for such a long time.’
Fiona Copeland (previous chair) said ‘I have known Sylvie for over 20 years. She has been a great support to me personally whilst raising our sons (who both have PCD) but also in my role as Chair of PCD Support. More latterly she has remained a great friend and we regularly enjoyed a cuppa together with some gluten free cake. She was a kind and generous person who despite the challenges of having PCD herself was keen to help others for such a long time. I will miss her.’
There will be a Service of Thanksgiving to Celebrate her life on Monday, 3rd February 2025 at Northchurch Baptist Church at 2 p.m. Further details can be found here: Funeral Notice for Sylvie Prouse
