For those living with Primary Ciliary Dyskinesia (PCD), winter is already a tough time of year but add in the cost-of-living crisis, and it makes for an even more stressful season as the fight against the cold and damp sets in. This is why PCD Support UK opened up applications to those with PCD for a one-off payment of £100, under the Cost of Living Grant to assist those in need. The grant can be used to cover cost of food, bills, household essentials or paying for prescriptions.
Applications were open to households which include someone with PCD in the UK and are on means tested benefits or are in financial crisis. The application process closed on January 25th and we were inundated with applications. We are delighted to share that 53 applicants will be receiving their payment by February 10th 2023.
The grant application process revealed how important this grant is for those who are in financial difficult this winter, and how £100 will make a huge difference to them in being able to afford heating, food and essential exercise for their children with PCD such as swimming and football, which help with maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Jo* said, “This grant would be such a help and a weight off my shoulders to know that I can provide extra heating for my child with PCD and myself during the current cost of living crisis as well as helping towards the cost of electric."
Matthew* said “my son is about to start nebuliser treatment, which is going to impact the cost of electricity. This grant will really help towards those rising costs."
